Diabetes Self-Management Therapy

Bates County Memorial Hospital offers the services of a Diabetic Self-Management Therapy Program available to diabetics and spouses.

The education program is Recognized by the American Diabetes Association as having met the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education. The program is designed to teach the person with diabetes how to manage the disease.Self-management, along with proper medical care, will help prevent acute complications and reduce the risk of long-term complications.

The program will consist of individual consults with a BCMH Diabetic Educator and a Registered Dietician and three classes of approximately three hours in length.  Each class will include instruction on how to manage diabetes from multiple aspects along with a nutrition lesson from the Registered Dietitian.

The program will not overtake the role of the physician but teach the diabetic how to manage their lifestyle so that the potential risk of chronic complications may be decreased.

Education is at the heart of good diabetes management and one of the best ways to obtain the education is participation in a program such as this.
