All professional personnel are trained in
advanced life support for both adults and newborns. Education is
provided by our nursing staff prior to discharge regarding care of
the newborn and breastfeeding. The family-centered atmosphere
encourages family participation, both before and after the birth,
with our liberal rooming-in policies. Family members who are
unable to welcome the new addition due to their location, are able
to view a picture of the new arrival within hours of birth on our
BabyNet section of this website. |

Please Note:
The OB staff
at BCMH is very aware of recent reports of infant abduction that
have taken place in the Midwest and have actively taken measures
to help prevent a similar occurrence at our hospital. The OB
unit itself is a locked unit with restricted perimeter pass
admission for employees that need to come into the unit .
Visitors must ring a door bell in order to be admitted by the
nursing staff into the unit. When Mothers-to-be are admitted
into the hospital, additional security measures are reviewed,
and the patient's are instructed to never allow anyone but the
nursery nurse to take the baby for any reason. They are
informed of specific features that identify OB staff members and
that the staff members are introduced to the moms at the
beginning of their shifts. There is also a hospital wide Child
Abduction plan that is put into action should a child in any
department be suspected as missing. This "Code Adam" plan is
practiced yearly with a drill that involves all hospital
departments and employees. |
