Bre is a family nurse practitioner and comes to our rural health clinics with previous experience as a board-certified primary care provider as well as a nurse in a neuro intensive care unit. Together with her love for her patients and her can-do personality, Bre will be a great asset to our team.

Bre will join the staff of Family Care Clinics starting September 25 and will see patients in collaboration with Dr. James Wirkkula at both the Nursery Street Family Care Clinic in Butler and Adrian Family Care Clinic.

Bre grew up in Butler and before she graduated from Butler High School, she knew she wanted to pursue a career in healthcare. She started college in a pre-pharmacy program, but changed her major to nursing, inspired by her grandmother, a lifelong nurse. Bre saw her grandmother enjoy and flourish in her career and had the freedom to flex between a variety of nursing jobs.

Bre earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Saint Luke’s College of Health Sciences in 2016. She continued her education at Rockhurst University to receive her Master of Science in Nursing – Family Nurse Practitioner in 2021.

“I discovered I wanted to be a nurse practitioner while I was working in the Neuro Intensive Care Unit,” Bre said. “On that unit you didn’t work with patients long term and see their improvements, which is my favorite part of working in healthcare. I am looking forward to working with staff and patients that I have known for several years and continuing to build life-long relationships. I am excited to make an impact in the community I have grown up in and live in now.”

Bre has a special interest in the dermatology procedures family practice providers can provide in the primary care setting (such as skin tag removal, cryotherapy, wart removal) and she is interested in continuing her education in that area. Her experience as a family practice nurse practitioner has included patients of all ages, but she has a special heart for pediatric patients and young adults.

Her personal hobbies include playing a round of golf when work and the weather permits. Bre and her husband live in Butler and are expecting a baby girl this fall.
